Sesame is a flowering plant and belongs to the family Pedaliaceae. Both the oil and the seed of the Sesame plant are used by the food industry as an ingredient or for cooking. Sesame seeds have a high protein content, of which some can trigger allergic reactions including anaphylaxis for susceptible people. It is important to note that Sesame Oil is used unrefined in food products and will trigger reactions. For people with a Sesame allergy, even minor exposure can cause a reaction, highlighting the necessity for sensitive detection systems for food products.

The AgraStrip® Sesame kit is a ready-to-use lateral flow device supplied with all the consumables required to run 10 tests. Sesame residue can be detected at any stage of the production process from testing surfaces, ingredients right through to finished product analysis. The lateral flow device provides a positive or negative result within 11 minutes, enabling corrective actions to be implemented quickly when required.
